건축교육의 국제화
국가의 장벽이 무너진 현재의 세계 건축 시장에서 국제적 경쟁력 있는 건축인을 양성하는 것은 중요한 목표이다. 이를 위해 학생들은 시시각각 변하는 해외 건축 시장의 흐름을 인지해야 하고, 국제어인 영어 구사 능력을 듣기, 말하기, 읽기, 쓰기 모든 측면에 있어서 향상해야 한다. 그러나 보다 중요한 것은 현재 국제 건축계에서 형성되는 건축 담론을 접하고, 비평하고, 우리의 것으로 체화하는 능력이다. 본 프로그램에서는 학생들로 하여금 세계 건축의 최신 동향을 접하고 직접 국제 건축계와 소통하도록 교육할 것이다.
영어 능력 향상은 국제적 경쟁력을 갖춘 건축인으로 학생들을 양성하기 위한 필수요건이다. 학교 차원에서 최소한의 영어 인증점수 획득을 졸업요건으로 하고 있을 뿐만 아니라, 영어강의 비율을 2015년도 학교 전체 23% 및 건축학과 전공과목 61.1%로 운영하여 학생들에게 국제화의 필요성을 체감토록 하고 있다. 그동안 영어강의 비율을 높이고 외국인 본교생과 교환학생을 다수 받은 점은 물론이거니와, 외국인 교수 및 해외경력이 있는 외래교수진을 대폭 확충하여 국제적 네트워크를 형성한 점은 본 프로그램의 큰 장점이다.
고려대학교는 학교 전체의 제도에 따라 외국인 국적의 학생들을 정원외 2학기 신입생으로 받고 있다. 본 프로그램에도 가을학기에 산발적으로 소수의 학생이 이러한 유형을 입학했는데, 2013년부터는 그 숫자가 증가했고, 외국인 학생들을 지원하기 위해 학과는 외국인 학생들을 위한 오리엔테이션과 상담시간을 마련하였다. 학과에서는 적극적으로 외국인 학생의 학사 생활에 도움이 되도록 노력하고 있다.
교환학생 프로그램
건축학과는 학교 차원에서 운영하는 세계 유수 대학과의 교환학생 프로그램에 학생들이 참여할 수 있도록 적극적으로 지원하고 있다. 2011년부터 2015년까지 지난 5년 동안 18명의 학생이 미국, 이탈리아, 영국, 오스트리아, 일본 등 10개국 16개 학교에 교환학생으로 다녀왔다.
또한, 고려대학교와 협정을 맺은 세계의 유수 대학에서 매년 다수의 교환학생을 본 프로그램으로 파견하고 있다. 지난 5년간(2011~2015년) 매 학기 8.2명의 학생이 본 프로그램의 교과를 수강했고, 2016년 1학기 현재 4명의 학생이 교환학생으로 파견 나와 우리 학생들과 함께 공부하고 있다.
건축학과 재학생을 위해서 건축학과는 고려대학교 국제처를 통해 ESP 프로그램과 VSP 프로그램을 운영하고 있다. 추가로 이중전공 중 부전공이 경영학과인 경우 경영대학 교환학생도 신청가능하다. 또한 공과대학간의 교환학생 프로그램도 마련되어있다.
건축학과에서는 전 세계 외국 대학과 활발히 교류하고 있으며, 교환학생 프로그램뿐만 아니라 연구와 학자 교류 등 다양한 협력 체결을 하고 있다. 교류대학은 지역별로 미주, 유럽, 아시아, 오세아니아로 구분되며 파견교 중 건축학과가 있는 학교는 약 200여 개 학교로, 매해 업데이트되고 있다. 파견대상교 목록은 국제처 공지사항에 매 학기 공지되며 또한, 공과대학 홈페이지에서도 확인이 가능하니 참고 바란다.

해외 인턴쉽 프로그램
고려대학교 건축학과는 해외 인턴십프로그램을 통해 학생들이 세계를 배경으로 실무경험을 갖고 국제적인 경험을 통해 건축인으로 국제적인 감각을 가지는 데 의미가 있다. 2014년부터는 국제처의 도움을 받아 전 세계 공학 인턴십 프로그램을 통해 인턴십 기회를 제공하고 있다.
2000년 초부터 본 학과에서는 SOM, Smith Group, De Stefano, Ellerbe Becket, NBBJ 등을 비롯한 해외 설계사무소에 2~6개월가량 매년 인턴학생을 파견했었다. 이 프로그램은 수년간 대학원생을 대상으로 운영되던 프로그램이었으나, 2009년부터 그 대상을 학과생으로 확대하여 운영하기 시작했다. 그러나 비자 문제 등의 이유로 2012년도부터는 해외인턴프로그램의 운영이 원활하지 못한 상황이다. 따라서 본 프로그램은 다른 방법을 통해 학생들의 해외 활동을 안내해 주기 위해 노력하고 있다. 국제처의 글로벌리더쉽센터에서 주관하는 IAESTE(The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience)를 통해 해외에 학생을 파견하고 있다.

국제 워크샵 프로그램
방학을 이용하여 해외 대학과 공동으로 디자인 및 학술 워크숍을 개최하거나 참여하여 학생들이 국제적인 감각을 익히고 다른 문화권 사람들과 교류할 수 있는 계기를 마련하고 있다. 또한, 참여 학생들을 대상으로 워크숍 내용과 연계한 전공선택 과목인 “해외도시건축설계I,II”를 매 학기 개설하고 있다.
International Education
- Architects with international competitiveness
It is an important goal to cultivate internationally competitive architects in the current global construction market, where national barriers have fallen. To this end, students must be aware of the ever-changing trend of the overseas construction market and improve their ability to speak English, an international language, in all aspects of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. More important, however, is the ability to interact with, criticize, and embody the architectural discourse that is currently being formed in the international architectural world. This program will educate students to get in touch with the latest trends in world architecture and communicate directly with the international architecture world.
- English lectures and overseas experience faculty increase
Improving English proficiency is a prerequisite to nurture students as architects with international competitiveness. At the school level, not only is it a graduation requirement to obtain a minimum score of certification in English, but the percentage of English lectures is operated at 23% of the entire school in 2015 and 61.1% of major courses in the Department of Architecture, allowing students to experience the need for internationalization. The great advantage of this program is that it has increased the rate of English lectures and has received many foreign students and exchange students, as well as the fact that it has formed an international network by greatly expanding foreign professors and outpatient faculty with overseas experience.

Korea University accepts foreign nationality students as freshmen for the second semester in addition to the quota, according to the school's overall system. In this program, a small number of students were admitted sporadically during the fall semester, but the number has increased from 2013, and the department has prepared orientation and counseling time for foreign students to support foreign students. The department is actively trying to help foreign students in their academic life.

Exchange Students Programs
The Department of Architecture actively supports students to participate in exchange student programs with world-renowned universities operated by the school. In the past five years from 2011 to 2015, 18 students have attended 16 schools in 10 countries, including the United States, Italy, United Kingdom, Austria, and Japan, as exchange students.
In addition, many of the world's leading universities, which have signed an agreement with Korea University, send a large number of exchange students to this program every year. For the past five years (2011-2015), 8.2 students have taken courses in this program every semester, and as of the first semester of 2016, 4 students have been dispatched as exchange students to study with our students.
For students enrolled in the Department of Architecture, the Department of Architecture operates the ESP program and the VSP program through Korea University's Office of International Affairs. In addition, if the minor of the dual major is the business administration department, exchange students at the business school can also apply. There is also an exchange student program between engineering colleges.
The Department of Architecture actively engages in vibrant exchanges with foreign universities around the world, encompassing diverse collaborations including exchange student programs, research initiatives, and academic interactions. Partner universities are categorized by regions: the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. Among the universities open to exchange, approximately 200 institutions offer architecture programs, with the list being updated annually. Korea University has entered into cooperation agreements with 780 universities around the world for various exchanges such as research, student exchange, workshops, and more. Details of cooperation can be confirmed by inquiries to the international office.
International Internship
The Department of Architecture at Korea University is meaningful in that students have practical experience in the world as a background through overseas internship programs and have an international sense as architects through international experience. Since 2014, it has been providing internship opportunities through engineering internship programs around the world with the help of international offices.
Since the beginning of 2000, this department has dispatched intern students to overseas design offices including SOM, Smith Group, De Stefano, Ellerbe Becket, and NBBJ every year for 2 to 6 months. This program has been operated for graduate students for many years, but from 2009, it began to expand and operate the subject to undergraduate students. However, due to visa issues, etc., the overseas internship program has not been operated smoothly from 2012. Therefore, this program strives to guide students' overseas activities through different methods. Students are dispatched overseas through the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) hosted by the Global Leadership Center of the Ministry of International Affairs.

International workshop program
Through vacations, design and academic workshops are held or participated in jointly with overseas universities, providing an opportunity for students to learn an international sense and exchange with people from other cultures. In addition, “Overseas Urban Architecture Design I, II”, an optional major in connection with the workshop content, is opened every semester for participating students.
